Editorial Assistant – John Brown Media

Job Title: Editorial Assistant - John Brown Media
Location: London, UK (hybrid)

Role Purpose

This role, as an Editorial Assistant, is working on the Waitrose Food magazine account at John Brown Media.

The editorial assistant is responsible for assisting the magazine team in all aspects of the editorial process: assisting with research and the administration of features, organising samples for photographic shoots, dealing with reader enquiries, general office duties and assisting the editor.

Key Accountabilities

  • General office duties – e.g updating content records, setting up meetings, commissioning forms for writers, monthly mail-out of contributor copies.
  • General finance duties e.g overseeing monthly cost-logs, inputting invoices, raising purchase orders, helping with expenses.
  • Researching and writing some stories e.g for The List news pages.
  • Sourcing interviewees for My Cup of Tea celebrity feature and sometimes writing.
  • Helping with shoots – sourcing products, organising couriers, attending if required.
  • Compiling the monthly letters page and sourcing prizes.
  • Attending and contributing ideas to planning meetings.
  • Dealing with reader or other enquiries.
  • Help with social media e.g John Brown/Dentsu social posts.

Person Specification

  • Educated to degree level or with relevant experience; we are open to a wide range of backgrounds, but a passion for journalism (and ideally food journalism) is a must. Work experience at other media outlets would be an advantage but not compulsory.
  • A genuine interest in food.
  • Positive and highly motivated, with a keen eye for detail and the desire to produce work of the highest standard.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently and professionally with internal and external contacts at all levels both face to face and remotely.
  • Ability to work interactively and co-operatively with other team members and the client in meeting team goals
