economia's Ewan Buck wins Designer of the Year (Business Media) at PPA awards

Progressive Customer Publishing (PCP)'s Art Director Ewan Buck won Designer of the Year (Business Media) last night at the prestigious PPA Awards for his work on PCP's flagship title economia.

Buck was praised by the judges for creating a "beautiful, fun and playful product" in economia. "The judges were blown away by Ewan Buck. He was presented with a standard Business Media magazine and has completely restyled it."

The judges also commended Buck and economia for "a fantastic use of typefaces and infographics that really enhance the subject matter" and felt that the "inside spreads feel perfectly considered and there is a beautiful mixture of photography alongside the text. Buck has managed to create a magazine that looks very different from any other in this sector, not the easiest of tasks in the potentially dry world of accountancy."

In winning the award Buck beat off competition from a shortlist that included Google's Think Quarterly magazine, Architects' Journal, Marketing Week and Times Educational Supplement.

Launched in 2012, economia is circulated to members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and is now the UK's highest circulation monthly business magazine, with a global distribution of 160,000 leaders in business and finance.

The editor of economia Richard Cree was also shortlisted for Editor of the Year (Business Media) while the magazine itself was also shortlisted for Customer Magazine of the Year. PCP was also shortlisted for Publishing Innovator of the Year (annual turnover under £10m).

Dan Davey, managing director of Progressive Customer Publishing said: "I am absolutely delighted for Ewan, it's hugely deserved. Any award win is only made possible by an entire team working together to create a successful product, so this is a great recognition for the hard work, talent and tremendous dedication of the whole design team who work on economia.

"To get four shortlist nominations at the PPA awards against some of the biggest magazine media brands and businesses in the industry, is hugely gratifying. With this win it now means that economia and the ICAEW portfolio has three major award wins, one highly commended and a further six finalist nominations all within a year our first year of publishing.* It is fantastic to receive such praise and recognition from across the industry."

* economia won awards for Best Membership Title and Best Content Marketing Solution of the Year (B2B) at the 2012 CMA International Content Marketing Awards. The economia website was highly commended at the 2013 Online Media Awards 2013.
